Helping Hands!
Every Sunday afternoon we allow volunteers to come and play with the children. There are several high school students that come on a regular basis. They try to get other classmates to join them, but most high school students in China have very little time off. With that in mind, we very much appreciate the time they give up to play with the children.
The volunteers usually bring some sort of treat to give the children. Some times it’s a snack, special drink, or a toy like bubbles, jump ropes or balloons. This again is much appreciated as we know they are spending their own money to bless the children with these wonderful treats! For the most part, the volunteers will play small games, or some sort of sport like basketball with the children. Other volunteers like helping do different tasks such as organizing our storage rooms!
It’s better to serve than be served!
While several different groups, organizations and individuals come to play in person, others show their love by giving cheaper prices and even offer free services. This local hair salon offered to cut all the children’s hair for free. For those of you who do not know, getting a hair cut in China is no quick thing. They get their hair washed before and after getting it cut and then styled!
One of the hopes that we have, is that people will see the love we have of serving others. That it can open their minds and hearts to serve rather than be served. What we have found is, most people are willing to serve, they just don’t know where or how best to offer their time, energy and resources.
